We are so sorry to announce along with many others, that our program on April 4th ‘Birding by Song’ on the Meadoway with Emily Rondel is cancelled due to the COVID-19 crisis.
Hope you will all keep safe and find ways to enjoy nature despite everything. The Bird migration in Toronto is already ramping up. A couple of weeks ago Jim and I witnessed the Trumpeter Swan mating dance at Tommy Thompson Park.
They seem to be gone, now, maybe to breed in Georgian Bay or way up north in Alaska. Yesterday we saw about 20 Ring-necked Ducks. They stop over at the Spit on their way north to their breeding grounds, after spending the winter in the southern US. Other early migrants have already arrived in Toronto–Song Sparrows, Red-winged Blackbirds, Cormorants, Tree Swallows, checking out nesting boxes.
This is the beginning of our second week of school closure. Hope everyone is finding cool ways to enjoy nature ‘indoors’, or 6’ away from friends outdoors. Here are some resources we have enjoyed:
