We have two opportunities to speak up for Ontario Place’s West Island over the coming days. A major redevelopment – featuring a massive (65,000 square metre) private spa – is proposed for the site by Infrastructure Ontario, on behalf of the province, which owns the lands. Many groups have raised concerns about the impacts on wildlife habitat and the loss of hundreds of trees, as well as the overwhelming size and scale of the proposal. City staff planners have echoed these concerns in a recent status report. For more background, check out Ontario Place for All.
TFN will speak at a committee meeting of City councillors on April 12, 2023; you can read TFN’s deputation here.
Your voice is important too! Please take a moment to email your councillor about this proposal. You also have two other ways to let the city know your views:
- In person on Saturday, April 15 at the Beanfield Centre, 12:30 to 4:30 pm
- Virtual consultation meeting on Tuesday April 18; 7:00 pm: Register here.
